About Tashlich

Tashlich, is a Jewish custom in which a person symbolically casts away their sins. It is usually performed the first day of Rosh Hashana and is done in preparation for Yom Kippur in which we repent for the sins that we may have commited over the past year.

Tashlich is typically done by a body of water as it is based on a verse from the book of the Prophet Micha, "And you will cast all your sins into the depths of the sea." (Micha, 7:19). People tend to throw bread or crumbs into the water to perform a physical act of casting.
